- 1/4 Cup Toor Dal: Washed & Soaked in Warm Water for 4-5 hrs
- 1/4 Cup Spinach/Palak: Blanched
- 1/2 Cup Rice: Small Grains- Preferably, I didn’t have that hence
- 1 tsp Salt or To Taste
- 1/4 Cup Plain Yoghurt
- 1 tbsp Cooking Oil: Any- Neutral Veg. Oil- I’ve used Sesame Oil
- 2-3 Green Chillies or As Required
- 1 inch Ginger: Roughly Chopped
- 1 Pinch Turmeric Powder
- 1/2 tsp Red Chilli Powder
- 1 Pinch Black Pepper Powder
- 1 Pinch Hing/Asafoetida: Optional
- 1 tsp ENO/Fruit Salt or Alternatively, use 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
- As Required Cooking Oil: For Greasing the Dhokla Pan/Mould
- Tempering Spices:
- 3 tbsps Ghee/Cooking Oil/Mixture of both
- 7-8 Fresh Curry Leaves
- 1/8 Cup Freshly Grated Coconut or Desiccated Coconut
- 1 tbsp Sesame Seeds
- 1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
- 1/4 tsp Hing/Asafoetida
- 1 tbsp Fresh Coriander Leaves: Finely Chopped
- Garnish: Your Way
Instructions to make to make Instant Toor Dal-Palak Dhokla- Under 20 mins time 😋
- First Up: We need to wash well the dal & rice & let it soak in warm water for about 4-6 hrs time, overnight is always best- Post that strain the water & put it in a blender jar along with the blanched palak/spinach 👇🏻
- In that: Add in the aforesaid measured quantity of the rest of the ingredients altogether & without adding much water to it (Only about a little bit is required in it), blend it to a coarse mixture & not completely smooth 👇🏻

- Grease a microwaveable tray/dish with some oil/ghee-
Then, add in a tsp of fruit salt/ENO to this mixture & mix everything well together until nicely combined and well blended-
Ensure, not to over mix it - 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻
- After adding in the ENO to it, immediately pour it into the greased Baking Dish/Tray and put it for cooking it in the Microwave mode for about 7-8 mins time max. Temperature settings in different machines can vary- However, at no cost it should be microwaved for more than 10 mins time- For me it took about 8.5 mins time…
- Turn off the oven & let it cool down a bit while, we need to prepare the Tadka or Baghar for it rightly-
For that, add into the Tadka pan- All the aforesaid ingredients for the same & allow it to splutter nicely & release its fine aroma, turn off the flame & pour it onto the prepared warm dhokla now, slowly & gradually with the help of a spoon - Allowing it to seep in slowly inside it, keeping it moist, soft & fluffy enough- Now, let it cool down completely
Once it’s cooled down- Cut up into your desired shapes & sizes- Garnish with some freshly & finely chopped coriander leaves & freshly grated coconut- (recommended if you have it handy or else, desiccated will also do) - Time to transfer it into the serving plates/platters- Serve it warm or RT alongside your morning/evening Tea or Coffee and it can be accompanied by your choicest Green/Tamarind Chutney or any kind of Sweet Chutneys or similar & just CHILLAX…
